Title: Trojan Cow
Artist: Katyln Basilone & Brett Davis (Edinboro University of Pennsylvania)
Sponsor: Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Foundation, Inc.

The "Trojan Cow" is a design born purely from an aesthetic drive combined with the historical reference to the Troja Horse. It is an attempt at a humorous spin on the ancient tale that conjures the questions "What If…" and "Why not…." A thoroughly agricultural animal, after all, seems ridiculous in the guise of a majestic trophy supposedly erected to salute the might of an opposing army and simultaneously to signal acquiescence to said superiority. Perhaps Laocoon's warning would have been heeded if such a bow defeat were laden with the suspicious overtones of a bovine form as opposed to the glorious and powerful horse. Glory and power are not often associated with the 'common barnyard' beast, but the very act of making the cow central in this work places it as an icon. "Trojan Cow" emphasizes this aspect.
